May 2 • 1 minute read

Dental bacteria play a pivotal role in oral health and can influence the development of tooth decay and periodontal disease.  Two of the most common bacteria that contribute to tooth decay are Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus. Two common bacteria associated with periodontal disease are Tannerella forsythia and Porphyromonas gingivalis.  These bacteria not only compromise oral health but also have systemic implications such as links to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Maintaining good oral heath is paramount in preventing these bacteria from proliferating.
