Methamphetamines are highly addictive stimulants that affect the central nervous system. They can be ingested by swallowing, smoking, snorting, or injection. Methamphetamines can be devastating to oral health, oftentimes causing severe tooth decay and gum disease. Extensive tooth decay is likely due to both drug-induced psychological and physiological changes such as dry mouth and poor oral hygiene. The acidic nature of the drug also contributes to oral complications. Other physical effects such as vomiting or tooth grinding/clenching can be detrimental orally.
